IP VIDEOCONFERENCES (H.323/SIP)
Sometimes, from Universities or companies, they can request that we provide them with our IP address to hold a video conference with us. Or maybe we need to organize a quality videoconference with some place where they already have equipment for it and necessarily we have to adapt to their hardware.
To be able to make a video conference of this type we can use some specific videoconferencing equipment (if we had it available) that uses the same protocol - both in the UV and at the other end of the conference - or some software that, using our webcam and microphone , is equally compatible with the system of the other participants.
- From the Servei d'Informàtica we offer support and help to PDI / PAS to maintain an IP videoconference with other Universities, companies, etc. using software that supports the H.323 / SIP protocol.
There are programs for different operating systems that we can install on our computers, free in some cases, that would allow us to make the connection (Ekiga, Polycom PVX, RealPresence, etc). On occasion, the organizers of the videoconference can recommend some free or paid software that they have previously tested with their system.
If we need to know our IP to communicate it to the other participants (they call us), we can visualize it using a web browser and entering the following URL:
http://mmedia.uv.es/myip.php. If, on the contrary, we want to "call" the other end, we will need to know the IP address of the other participant.
In the UV software catalog, Polycom RealPresence Desktop (Windows and Mac) from Polycom is available at a reduced price for the university community.

If we need to make any question about Videoconferences we can do it through the Customer Service Center ({+}https://solicitudes.uv.es+) or writing to multimedia@uv.es.

FAQ / Frequently asked questions:
- Does the University have hardware equipment that I can use to maintain my IP videoconference?
Some Faculty or Center may have bought a videoconferencing system at some point, but we do not have information about it.
-If I decide to acquire RealPresence Desktop through the software catalog, will I get a reduction on the official price of the product?
Yes. The University has negotiated a price that is cheaper than if we bought it directly from the distributor in Spain.
-With the RealPresence license Can you move the software from one computer to another at any given time?
The license that is acquired is a stand-alone RPD per computer, so if we install the license on a computer, it can not officially be transferred to another machine.
-Is it necessary to use RealPresence any type of login (ie, Polycom user and password)?
No. This type of license is associated with a team. No need to log in to Polycom.
-How can I find out my IP?
The main window of RealPresence shows us the IP of our team in the lower right corner after the "i" of information. If we are using other software we can
find out from the web browser by entering the URL:
