Quick Guide for Obtaining Credentials Based on Admission

1. What are credentials?

  • They are an authentication mechanism based on a username and password.

    • If a person wishes to access as a student, even if they already have credentials as a lecturer or administrative staff member, they must obtain student-specific credentials.

  • Credentials are used to access the different services that the University of Valencia (hereinafter UV) offers its users, such as access to email accounts, the virtual classroom, enrolment processes, the student portal, the staff portal, etc.

  • The UV offers two types of credentials:

    • Permanent credentials (for students and external lecturers).

      • These are used to access the various services that the UV offers its users, such as email accounts, the virtual classroom, enrolment processes, the student portal, the staff portal, etc.

    • Temporary credentials, which allow access only to an admission application (students only).

2. What requirements must I meet to obtain UV credentials?

  • You must not already have credentials.

    • If you already have credentials, even if they were obtained a long time ago and you no longer remember them, you will not be able to obtain new ones.

  • You must be admitted to a selection process organised by or in agreement with the UV, such as:

    • Admission to a bachelor’s degree through the GVA (Valencian Government)

    • Admission to postgraduate studies (master's, doctorate)

    • Admission to Nau Gran

  • Your admission must include an email address and/or a telephone number. Without at least one of these, it is not possible to obtain credentials online.

    • There are certain restrictions regarding the email address and telephone number:

      • The email address cannot be a UV email account.

      • The email address must not already be used as a recovery email by another legal identity (different identifier).

        • Some individuals register using one passport and later register with a different passport or with a foreigner identification number (NIE). From an identity perspective, these are considered two different individuals. If this occurs, you must contact your faculty or school so they can merge your identities.

    • The telephone number must be a Spanish mobile number capable of receiving SMS messages.

    • Similarly to the email address, the telephone number must not already be used by another identity.

3. How can I obtain my credentials?

  • You must access the web application: https://webges.uv.es/uvCredencialesWeb/#/obtenerCredenciales/en

  • You must accept and authorise the UV to store your email address and/or telephone number to manage your credentials.

  • You must provide:

    • The type of document and your identification document. This must match the type and identification document stated in your application:

      • NIF consists of 8 numerical digits followed by a control letter.

      • NIE consists of an X/Y/Z followed by 7 numbers and a final letter.

      • PASSPORT consists of a string of up to 14 characters.

      • M95 is a UV identifier that starts with M95, followed by 5 digits and ending with either a letter or a numerical control digit.

    • The type of permanent credentials:

      • For students

      • For external lecturers

  • Enter the captcha displayed on the screen and click on Validate.

  • The application will send you an email and an SMS (depending on whether you provided one or both) containing a code, which you should enter on the next screen.

    • Be sure to check your spam folder. Due to the high volume of similar messages sent during enrolment periods, some email providers may mistakenly classify the message as spam.

  • If a screen appears confirming that your credentials have been successfully generated:

  • If an error message appears, please consult section 4: What problems might I encounter when obtaining my credentials?

4. What problems might I encounter when obtaining my credentials?

  • You already have credentials

  • There is no active admission at the time of generating your credentials

    • Please note that admissions expire. It is possible that you had an admission which has now expired. Contact your faculty or school for further information.

    • You may be mistaken and trying to obtain permanent credentials to access an admission application. If so, please go to the temporary credentials page: https://webges.uv.es/uvCredencialesWeb/#/credencialesProvisionales/en

  • There are problems with the email address or telephone number provided

    • If both are incorrect, or if only one has been provided and it is incorrect, you will not be able to complete the process of obtaining credentials until at least one of them is updated or corrected by the UV.

      • They will be considered incorrect if:

        • They are already in use by another identity.

        • They have not been provided.

        • There is an error in how they were entered.

        • You have only provided an email address and it is a UV email account.

        • The telephone number is not a Spanish mobile number.

    • If only one of them is valid, you will be informed that only the valid one has been used. This is the one you will need to use for password recovery.

    • If both are valid, you may use either.

  • Timeout issues or unavailable services

    • This usually relates to a system or database issue.

    • There is a technical team monitoring the system. It is recommended that you wait a short while and try again. The automatic process will be able to continue from where it left off before the incident.
